View a video from NASA about the role satellites play in monitoring climate change.

Without satellite data, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change could not have prepared its influential study of global warming that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Satellites launched by the European and Canadian space agencies confirmed that sea levels are rising by three millimeters per year and that the Greenland glaciers are melting more quickly than previously thought.

NASA satellite measurements of ocean color indicated that higher temperatures are reducing the growth of microscopic plants and animals that are central to the marine food web.
